Oman today_ Neon Studio has recently released the first official teaser for the film “Alpha.” This new movie, directed by acclaimed French filmmaker Julia Ducournau and starring Golshifteh Farahani and Tahar Rahim, is one of the most anticipated entries at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Set in a fictional city inspired by 1980s New York, the story follows an 11-year-old girl named Alpha, who struggles with the loss of her parents and her first encounter with death and grief during the global AIDS crisis.
Alongside Golshifteh Farahani and Tahar Rahim, the cast includes actors Emma Mackey, Melissa Borruso, and Finnegan Oldfield. To prepare for this demanding role, Tahar Rahim lost 20 kilograms, demonstrating his deep commitment to portraying the character authentically.
Although there has been no official confirmation linking this film to Ducournau’s previous work, “Titane,” the director has often mentioned in interviews her enjoyment of embedding subtle references to her past films. She believes each movie is an opportunity to explore human emotions more deeply and establish a closer, more genuine connection with the audience. In a recent interview, Ducournau stated that her goal with every project is to achieve a purer and more direct expression of emotions—a journey she says will never truly end.
“Alpha,” with a runtime of 128 minutes, is scheduled to premiere in U.S. theaters this October and is expected to be one of the significant films of the year in the realm of arthouse and independent cinema. Fans of Julia Ducournau’s work and the international cast can look forward to a unique and profound cinematic experience.
