Oman today_ France is famous not only for its well-known tourist attractions but also for its unique and delicious pastries such as croissants, napoleons, and macarons. Among these pastries, there is a lesser-known yet flavorful treat called French Slice Pastry, which holds a special place. If you’re looking to try a different and simple recipe, this pastry is a great choice. To make it, you’ll need ingredients like flour, baking powder, powdered sugar, butter, milk, apples, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon, which we will explain how to use below.

To begin, mix 300 grams of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar together. Then, cut 50 grams of butter into small pieces and rub it into the dry ingredients using your fingertips until fully absorbed. Gradually add 250 milliliters of milk to the mixture until you get a soft dough. Knead the dough lightly and spread it evenly into a 25 by 35-centimeter greased baking pan. Use a fork to poke a few holes on the dough’s surface to help it bake better.

Peel and thinly slice about 500 grams of apples, then arrange them evenly on top of the dough. For the topping, combine 175 grams of flour, 100 grams of sugar, a quarter teaspoon of vanilla, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Add 100 grams of cold, chopped butter and rub it into the dry ingredients with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle this crumbly topping over the apples.

Bake the pastry in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for about 30 minutes. Once baked, allow the pastry to cool before cutting it into your desired slices. This pastry, with its fragrant combination of apples and cinnamon, offers a wonderful flavor and makes an excellent choice for afternoon tea or gatherings.
