The game, which ended in a goalless draw, featured Oston Urunov, a star player from Persepolis, in Uzbekistan’s starting lineup. However, Urunov was forced to leave the field in the 9th minute due to an injury.
Other notable players for Uzbekistan included Jaloliddin Masharipov from Esteghlal and goalkeeper Utkir Yusupov from Foolad, both of whom played the entire match.
This result elevated Uzbekistan to second place in Group One with 18 points, 4 points ahead of the UAE. As a result, Uzbekistan became the third Asian team to qualify for the World Cup, marking their first-ever appearance in the tournament’s history.
On the other hand, the UAE, with 14 points, finished third in the group and will proceed to the playoffs for another chance at qualification. Previously, Iran and Japan had already secured their places in the World Cup, and Uzbekistan now joins them as Asia’s latest representative.
