Oman today_ Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad kept their hopes of reaching the knockout stage of the Asian Elite League alive with an impressive 3–0 victory over Al-Sharjah of the UAE. The match took place on Tuesday night at Al-Inma Stadium in Jeddah, where Sérgio Conceição’s side delivered a disciplined and dominant performance to secure their second win of the campaign.
Steven Bergwijn opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a fine header from a precise cross by Muhannad Al-Shanqeeti. Al-Sharjah briefly thought they had equalized through Caio Lucas, but his goal was ruled out for offside, and Al-Ittihad maintained their one-goal lead into halftime.
In the second half, Karim Benzema doubled the advantage in the 66th minute after a well-placed assist from Moussa Diaby, and deep into stoppage time, Roger Fernandes sealed the win with a composed finish following a pass from Faisal Al-Ghamdi.
The result lifted Al-Ittihad to six points, placing them sixth in the West Group standings, while Al-Sharjah remained on four points in eighth place, suffering their second consecutive defeat.
Al-Ittihad now faces a challenging schedule ahead, including the Jeddah Derby against Al-Ahli, an AFC Elite League clash with Al-Duhail of Qatar, and a King’s Cup Round of 16 match against Al-Shabab. The outcomes of these fixtures will be pivotal in shaping Conceição’s campaign as the team navigates a demanding November.
