Oman today_ Recent studies indicate that sleeping on your side or stomach can cause the most damage to your skin. Dermatologists warn that the constant pressure and friction from a pillow on the face, shoulders, and chest can gradually lead to wrinkles and sagging.

Sleep is a crucial pillar of skin health, as it activates the body’s cellular repair and regeneration processes. However, the way the body is positioned during sleep plays a significant role in this restorative cycle. Evidence shows that sleeping on your side or stomach may accelerate the skin’s aging process.

Experts explain that lines caused by prolonged pressure from the pillow initially appear temporary, but over time, they can develop into permanent wrinkles. These so-called “sleep lines” often appear in sensitive areas such as the cheeks, jawline, around the mouth, and shoulders. As collagen and elastin—the key proteins responsible for skin firmness and elasticity—decline with age, these wrinkles become more pronounced.

Dermatologists emphasize that although sleeping on your side or stomach may offer certain health benefits, from a skincare perspective, these positions cause the most harm to the skin.
