Oman today_ The Central Bank of Oman has announced the issuance of a commemorative one-rial polymer banknote, marking the first time in the country’s monetary history that a banknote of this material is being printed. The note will enter circulation on January 11, 2026. Made of polymer, it offers greater durability and enhanced security features, distinguishing it from the standard cotton-based banknotes currently in use.

Measuring 145 × 76 mm, the banknote showcases a harmonious representation of Oman’s national achievements. The front features the Oman Botanic Garden, while the back highlights the Sayyid Tariq bin Taimur Cultural Complex alongside the Duqm Port and Refinery. In addition to its unique design, the note incorporates advanced security elements, including a large transparent window inspired by the architecture of the Oman Botanic Garden, a color-shifting foil depicting the frankincense tree on the front, and the Central Bank of Oman’s visual identity in color-shifting ink on the reverse.

The Central Bank has confirmed that this commemorative banknote will circulate alongside existing notes and is valid for all transactions at its face value. Additionally, 1,000 uncut sheets and 10,000 specially packaged banknotes will be available for purchase through the Central Bank’s exchange counters in Ruwi, Salalah, and Sohar, as well as the Oman Post sales outlet at Opera Galleria, starting January 11, 2026.
