Oman today_ Recent research shows that consuming walnuts after meals can reduce the negative effects of high-fat foods on the arteries. Experts recommend a daily intake of 28 grams of walnuts. A study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology indicates that the health benefits of walnuts may even surpass those of olive oil.

In the study, 24 adults with varying cholesterol levels were examined; half had normal cholesterol, while the other half had slightly elevated levels. The tests revealed that both walnuts and olive oil can help reduce inflammation and harmful oxidation in the arteries caused by high-fat meals. Prolonged inflammation and oxidation can lead to stiffening of the arterial walls and increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.

However, unlike olive oil, consuming walnuts supports the maintenance of arterial flexibility and elasticity regardless of cholesterol levels. Flexible arteries allow the body to expand them effectively whenever increased blood flow is needed.

Walnuts are rich in arginine, an amino acid the body uses to produce nitric oxide, which is essential for maintaining arterial flexibility. They also contain antioxidants and alpha-linolenic acid, a type of omega-3 fatty acid, which contribute to overall heart health.
