Oman today_ The Oman Botanic Garden project has been officially handed over by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to Muscat Municipality, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the operation of one of the region’s largest and most distinguished botanical collections. The garden stands out for its remarkable scale, rich biodiversity, and its unique combination of education, eco-tourism, and recreational functions.

The Minister of Heritage and Tourism stated that after years of phased development and continuous effort, the project is now fully ready for operation and has been entrusted to Muscat Municipality. He emphasized that the garden is expected to play a key role in stimulating various service and economic sectors. Appreciation was also extended to everyone who contributed to the realization of the project, while reaffirming the commitment to ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening the tourism industry.

The Oman Botanic Garden is a world-class facility that comprehensively showcases the country’s plant diversity, natural features, and cultural heritage. Located in the Al Khoudh area, near Muscat International Airport and Sultan Qaboos University, the garden spans 430 hectares and encompasses part of the northern mountain ranges of Oman.

The main focus of the garden is to highlight Oman’s native plant species, with different ecosystems meticulously recreated—from arid desert landscapes to lush monsoon cloud forests. In addition, traditional agricultural practices and the everyday uses of plants in Omani life are presented in an educational format for visitors.

The garden is expected to become a major hub for environmental education, scientific research, and sustainable tourism, further reinforcing Oman’s commitment to sustainability and cultural preservation.
