Oman today_ During the twentieth session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage held in New Delhi, India, the art of mirror-work in Persian architecture was officially inscribed as a representative element of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage. Listed under the title J Ayeneh-Kari, the art of mirror-work in Persian architecture, this inscription raises the number of Iran’s registered intangible heritage elements to 27.
This marks the first time an element related to Persian architecture has been added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, officially securing the term “Persian Architecture” within UNESCO’s documentation. The nomination file for this art form was submitted by Iran to UNESCO in April 2024.
