Oman today_ Disney has released the first official teaser for the live-action remake of Moana. In this version, Dwayne Johnson reprises his role as Maui, while newcomer Auli’i Cravalho stars as Moana for the first time. The live-action remake of Moana was confirmed two years ago, and filming began in the fall of the same year.

The original animated Moana was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and marked the 56th feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The story is set in a fantastical, ancient world and follows the journey of the daughter of a tribal chief. In the new live-action adaptation, John Tu plays Moana’s father, Frankie Adams takes on the role of her mother, and Rena Owen portrays her grandmother Tala.

In recent years, Disney has adapted several of its classic animated films into live-action, including Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Dumbo, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Snow White. However, some of the latest adaptations have faced challenges and have not always delivered the expected success for the studio.

The live-action Moana is directed by Thomas Kail, known for In the Heights, with a screenplay by Jared Bush and Dina Ledow Miller. Dwayne Johnson and Lin-Manuel Miranda are also serving as producers on the project.

The highly anticipated film is set to hit theaters on July 10, 2026, bringing audiences back into Moana’s magical world of adventure.
