Oman today_ Oman Air has recently issued a set of new guidelines regarding the carriage of electronic devices and lithium batteries, covering power banks, smart luggage, and e-cigarettes, with the aim of reducing fire risks associated with rechargeable batteries. According to the airline, these regulations have been designed to make travel safer and smoother, align with international aviation safety standards, and are effective immediately on all Oman Air flights.

Under these guidelines, power banks must be carried in hand luggage only; placing them in checked baggage, using, or charging them during the flight is prohibited. They must be kept under the seat or in the seatback pocket, and damaged power banks or those without proper identification labels will not be accepted. Smart luggage is subject to stricter rules: bags with non-removable batteries are not allowed as checked baggage, while passengers with smart luggage that have removable batteries must remove the battery before check-in and carry it in the cabin.

E-cigarettes and vaping devices are permitted only in hand luggage or as carry-on items and may not be used or charged during the flight. Other personal electronic devices, such as mobile phones, tablets, and laptops, may be charged using in-flight power ports, but they must remain under the passenger’s supervision at all times. Charging of separate batteries for power banks and vaping devices during the flight is strictly prohibited.

Furthermore, the carriage of personal mobility devices equipped with lithium batteries, including hoverboards, mini scooters, and mini Segways, is completely prohibited in both hand and checked baggage. Oman Air has advised passengers to review the guidelines regarding electronic devices and baggage restrictions before traveling and to contact customer service for more information if needed.
