Oman today_ Tom Ford, the acclaimed American fashion designer and filmmaker, is returning to directing after nearly a decade away from cinema with his new film “Cry to Heaven.” The movie is based on the novel by Anne Rice, the celebrated author of Interview with the Vampire.
In this project, Ford not only directs but also writes and produces the film, fully financing it himself to maintain complete creative control over the final cut.
The cast features an impressive lineup of stars, including Adele—making her first-ever film appearance—alongside Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany, Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Hunter Schafer, and Thandiwe Newton. Rising talents such as Owen Cooper, Cassian Bilton, and Laux Pascal are also part of the ensemble.
Currently in pre-production, the film is scheduled to begin shooting in Rome and London in January 2026, with a planned release in the fall of the same year.
Set in 18th-century Italy, Cry to Heaven tells the story of two men—one a Venetian nobleman, the other a singer from Calabria—each striving for success in the world of opera. Along their journey, they confront love, betrayal, and the search for personal and artistic freedom.
Ford, who previously earned major accolades and nominations from the Oscars, BAFTA, and Golden Globes for his acclaimed films A Single Man and Nocturnal Animals, now returns to bring his distinctive visual style and artistic vision back to the screen with Cry to Heaven.
