Oman today_ Al Sogara is a very remote village in Oman, located in the Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate on the slopes of Jebel Akhdar, also known as the “Green Mountain.” The village is approximately 200 kilometers (125 miles) from Muscat and about 40 kilometers from the mountain town of Seih Qatana. Al Sogara is famous for its houses carved directly into the cliffs or built with stone and mortar, making it one of the most secluded and least-known settlements in Oman. The residents still live in these traditional homes, which were designed to protect against storms and cold weather. Until 2005, access for tourists and foreigners was very limited. The village offers a unique glimpse into traditional Omani life and cliffside architecture, making it an exceptional destination for those seeking to explore untouched, remote areas.
