Oman today_ Oman is rapidly emerging as a key player in the global space industry, moving beyond symbolic participation to a leadership role through strategic international collaborations. Growing regional and global attention to space technologies has further strengthened this progress.
Dr. Saud bin Humaid Al Shuaili, Head of Oman’s National Space Program, stated that the National Space Policy, launched in January 2023 under Oman Vision 2040, aims to position the country as a regional gateway for space applications and new economic opportunities, with a special focus on terrestrial services.
A major initiative under this policy is the “Oman Space Accelerators” program, which empowers local companies to provide high-demand space services. The National Space Program also focuses on developing professional skills, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, offering training programs for government employees, private sector professionals, and students.
Oman’s favorable geographic location, stable climate, and vast uninhabited areas make it an ideal site for space launches and technology testing. In December 2024, Oman marked a significant milestone by launching its first test rocket from the Al-Kahl area in Duqm, successfully completing the “Duqm-1” mission and reinforcing its position as a regional space hub.
Experts believe Oman has the potential to provide critical space services, including ground stations, control centers, and telecommunications infrastructure, while hosting research centers and space technology startups.
With strategic investments, international partnerships, and local talent development, Oman is now well-positioned to play a pivotal role in the future expansion of human presence in space.
