Oman today_ The new film Sentimental Value, directed by Joachim Trier, has been officially selected as Norway’s submission for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. The cast includes Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, and Elle Fanning.
The story follows Nora, an actress played by Reinsve, and her sister Agnes as they cope with the loss of their mother. Their father, a once-successful filmmaker who has long been absent from their lives, suddenly reappears with a new screenplay and offers Nora the leading role. While Nora declines, the father later travels to France, where he encounters a Hollywood star.
Among three shortlisted films, Sentimental Value was chosen over Dreams and Facing War to represent Norway. In its statement, the Norwegian Oscar Committee described Joachim Trier as a filmmaker working with remarkable confidence, who draws inspiration from the masters of cinema while exploring the intricate layers of human relationships with a fresh perspective.
The film is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on November 7.
