Oman today_ Muscat Municipality has announced the launch of an electronic system for paying damages caused by vehicle accidents involving public road infrastructure. The platform is designed to accelerate the compensation process, simplify administrative procedures, and improve the maintenance of public facilities. It is also part of the government’s broader digital services strategy.
Citizens and drivers can access the system through the Muscat Municipality website (www.mm.gov.om) or via the Unified Government e-Services Portal. Requests can also be submitted through “Sanad” service offices.
According to the municipality, the damages covered under this system include urban infrastructure such as streetlight poles, traffic signs, concrete and metal barriers, crash cushions, roadside fences, irrigation systems, green spaces, and road markings.
To submit a request, applicants are required to upload documents including a damage assessment report issued by the Royal Oman Police, a copy of the identity card of the person responsible for the accident or their legal representative, and a technical report from the municipality. Once the documents are reviewed, municipal experts will dispatch technical teams to the accident site to assess the extent of the damage and repair costs. The determined amount is then paid through the platform, and finally, a clearance letter is issued.
Officials stated that the entire process takes between one to five working days, depending on the completeness of the submitted documents.
Official statistics show that in 2024 alone, more than 338 cases of vehicle collisions with public infrastructure were recorded, with the highest number occurring in Muscat Governorate.
