Oman today_ The Royal Oman Police has announced that residence permits issued to expatriates can now be valid for up to three years. This change is based on Resolution No. 78/2025, which was enacted today by Major General Hassan bin Mohsen Al-Sharigi, Inspector General of Police and Customs. The resolution amends several key provisions of the Executive Regulations of the Civil Status Law.
According to Article 1 of this resolution, Article 21 of the Executive Regulations of the Civil Status Law has been replaced as follows: “The personal identification card is valid for 10 Gregorian years, while the residence permit card is valid for up to 3 Gregorian years from the date of issuance or renewal. Cardholders are required to renew their cards within 30 days after expiration.”
Article 2 specifies the fees for issuance, renewal, replacement, and related services for cards and certificates as follows:
5 Omani Rials for a one-year residence permit
10 Omani Rials for a two-year residence permit
15 Omani Rials for a three-year residence permit
20 Omani Rials for replacing a lost or damaged residence permit
Furthermore, this resolution extends the validity of personal identification cards for Omani citizens to 10 years, aligning it with the validity of the Omani passport. The fees for issuing and renewing this card are set at 10 Omani Rials, and the fee for replacing a lost or damaged card is also 10 Omani Rials.
