Oman today_ The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) of Oman has launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing regulatory services and facilitating direct communication with the public. As part of this project, commercial stores in Muscat are being equipped with QR codes, with plans to gradually expand the system to other governorates across Oman.
Under this initiative, two types of QR codes are being installed in stores. The first is designed for consumers, allowing them to scan the code and directly submit feedback, complaints, or suggestions to the Authority. The second is exclusively for CPA inspectors and provides them with digital access to the store’s data, eliminating the need for manual data entry. This digital approach helps keep store records up to date and improves the accuracy and efficiency of inspections.
The CPA states that the main objectives of this project are to save time, streamline communication with the public, increase oversight accuracy, and strengthen consumer rights. This move is part of the Authority’s broader strategy to incorporate technology-driven tools into its oversight and consumer protection efforts across Oman.
The CPA also emphasized that consumers in Oman are entitled to exchange or return defective or non-compliant products within 15 days of purchase and receive a full refund. This right, however, does not apply to perishable food items.
These efforts reflect the CPA’s commitment to leveraging technology to simplify processes, increase transparency, and provide meaningful protection for citizens in Oman’s commercial markets.
