Oman today_ Registration is now open for the 11th edition of the Oman Desert Marathon, scheduled to take place from January 10 to 14, 2026, in the golden sands of the Wilayat of Bidiyah, located in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. Recognized as one of the leading international endurance events in the region, this desert race continues to attract both professional and amateur runners from around the world.
The event offers a range of race categories designed to accommodate participants with different fitness levels and preferences. These include a challenging 165 km five-stage self-supported ultra-marathon, a more accessible 100 km desert trek, and shorter distances of 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, 5 km, and a 2 km race for children and youth.
The marathon regularly features notable participants, including elite athletes from the Royal Army of Oman and independent runners, with both local and international competitors having left their mark on the race over the years.
This year, the Oman Desert Marathon has been awarded the SheRACES certification—an official recognition granted to races that meet the highest standards of inclusivity and equity for female athletes. With this accreditation, the Oman Desert Marathon stands out as the only desert race in the Middle East with this distinction.
The event is organized with the support of Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Ministry of Transport, and the dedicated Oman Desert Marathon organizing team. It forms part of the country’s broader efforts to promote adventure tourism and showcase its unique natural landscapes to a global audience.
