Oman today_ In 2025, the Omani passport has made a notable leap to rank 56th in the world—an improvement from its 67th position in 2018. According to the Henley Passport Index, this progress is due to the increasing number of visa-free destinations available to Omani citizens, including China and Russia, both of which have recently waived visa requirements for Omani travelers. The mutual visa-free agreement between Oman and Russia for short-term visits came into effect on July 18, 2025.
The number of countries that Omani citizens can visit without a visa has now reached 86, with many more offering visa-on-arrival or electronic visa options.
Among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the United Arab Emirates leads with visa-free access to 185 destinations, securing the 9th spot globally. Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain have also achieved higher rankings compared to previous years.
In contrast, the Iranian passport ranks 91st globally, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to only 42 countries—a position that still lags significantly behind its regional counterparts.
On a global scale, Singapore holds the top spot, with visa-free access to 193 destinations. The United Kingdom and the United States, once leading the list, have dropped to the 6th and 10th places, respectively. The United States is now on the verge of falling out of the top 10 for the first time.
At the bottom of the index, Afghanistan holds the weakest passport in the world, with visa-free access to only 26 countries.
