Oman today_ Following controversy sparked by Al Hilal’s withdrawal from the Saudi Super Cup, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation has officially finalized the tournament’s lineup. Modeled after the formats used in Italy and Spain, the competition is set to take place as a four-team tournament.
Initially, the plan was to include the top three teams from the Roshn League along with the winner of the King’s Cup. However, since Al Ittihad claimed both titles—league and cup—the top four teams in the league standings were selected: Al Ittihad, Al Hilal, Al Nassr, and Al Qadsiah.
After Al Hilal withdrew, the federation turned to the fifth-place team, Al Ahli, in order to preserve the four-team structure. Although Al Ahli, the reigning champion of the AFC Elite League, was initially reluctant, the club ultimately agreed to participate.
As a result, the semi-final matchups will feature Al Nassr versus Al Ittihad on one side of the bracket, and Al Ahli against Al Qadsiah on the other. The winners will meet in the final, scheduled for August 23.
