Oman today_ According to the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) in Oman, the country’s telecommunications sector has experienced notable growth, with people increasingly relying on digital services and smart solutions.
1. Growth in Mobile Subscriptions: By the end of May 2025, the number of active postpaid mobile subscriptions exceeded 1.2 million, marking a 5.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Prepaid mobile subscriptions also rose by 3.1%, reaching over 5.3 million.
2. Surge in Internet of Things (IoT) Devices: The number of devices connected through the Internet of Things saw an exceptional rise of 118.7%, reaching more than 1.5 million subscriptions.
3. Increase in Overall Mobile and Mobile Internet Users: By the end of May 2025, the total number of mobile subscriptions in Oman surpassed 8.13 million, representing a 15.2% growth year-on-year. Additionally, active mobile broadband subscriptions climbed to over 5.4 million.
4. Growth in Fixed Home Internet Services: Fixed broadband internet subscriptions reached 588,000 by the end of May 2025, reflecting a 2.6% increase. Fiber optic internet saw a significant rise of 11.4%, reaching 339,000 subscribers, while fixed 5G subscriptions grew by 2.1% to 215,000.
5. Decline in Older Technologies: In contrast, fixed 4G home internet subscriptions dropped by 38.1% to approximately 19,600, and DSL subscriptions decreased sharply by 50.8%, falling to 11,800. Satellite internet subscriptions declined by 2.1% to 653, and other specialized connections such as internet via power lines, Ethernet, or leased lines dropped by 12%, totaling 773 subscriptions.
