Oman today_ With the official announcement by the organizers of the Venice International Film Festival, the jury lineup for the main competition of the festival’s 82nd edition has been revealed. This year, acclaimed American filmmaker Alexander Payne will serve as the president of the jury, joined by figures from diverse national and cinematic backgrounds.
Among the notable names on the panel are Brazilian actress and writer Fernanda Torres and renowned Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof. Their presence marks their first appearance as jury members at the Venice Film Festival and has drawn significant attention.
Other members of the jury include French director Stéphane Brizé, Italian filmmaker Maura Delpero, Romanian director and producer Cristian Mungiu, and acclaimed Chinese actress Zhao Tao. This jury will be responsible for selecting and presenting the festival’s top honors, including the Golden Lion for Best Film, Silver Lion for Best Director, Volpi Cup for Best Actress and Best Actor, Best Screenplay Award, and the Special Jury Prize.
In the “Orizzonti” (Horizons) section — dedicated to discovering emerging talents and innovative cinematic voices — French filmmaker Julia Ducournau (director of Titane) will serve as jury president. She will be joined by jury members from Italy, Argentina, Australia, and the United States to evaluate the works in this category.
The 82nd edition of the Venice International Film Festival will take place from August 27 to September 6, 2025.
