Oman today_ Al Jabal Al Sharqi, a mountainous area in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate of Oman, is rapidly emerging as one of the country’s key tourist destinations. With its breathtaking natural landscapes, cool year-round climate, and serene environment, it is attracting a growing number of local and international visitors.
According to Sheikh Hilal Said Al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, several initiatives are underway in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to enhance tourism services in the area. One of the most prominent of these is the “Al Jabal Al Sharqi Oasis” project, which spans 10,000 square meters and will feature various amenities including a restaurant, an open-air theatre, walking trails, shaded seating areas, and green spaces for visitors. This project is part of the broader national development plan known as “Oman Vision 2040.”
With an elevation of over 2,000 meters above sea level, Al Jabal Al Sharqi is an ideal destination for camping, hiking, family outings, stargazing, and outdoor sports such as mountain biking. From August 1 to 30, the “Al Hamra Tourism 2025” event will be held in the region, offering a wide range of activities for all age groups — from sunrise-viewing and horseback riding to cultural, recreational, and educational programs.
These events aim to support small businesses, create job opportunities for youth, and enhance the role of tourism in the governorate’s economic growth. Officials believe such programs will significantly contribute to sustainable regional development and greater community engagement.
