Oman today_ Universal and Nintendo have begun working on a film centered around the iconic video game character, Donkey Kong. According to documents filed in June 2025, the movie will be a new adaptation from the world of video games.
Seth Rogen, who voiced Donkey Kong in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, had previously said that the character has strong potential for a standalone film. Following the massive success of that movie, which grossed over $1.3 billion, a dedicated Donkey Kong film is now officially in the works.
Nintendo and Universal have also confirmed that The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 will be released in spring 2026, and the live-action The Legend of Zelda is scheduled to hit theaters on March 26, 2027.
