Oman today_ The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in Oman has inaugurated the Ittin Tunnel Project in the city of Salalah. This initiative, with a budget exceeding OMR 11 million, was launched as part of ongoing efforts to improve urban infrastructure and enhance the road network in the region.
According to Engineer Saeed bin Mohammed Tabuk, Director General of the Directorate General of Roads and Land Transport in the Dhofar Governorate, the project has seen remarkable progress, with completion reaching approximately 97% — a figure that is 24% ahead of the scheduled timeline. He also noted that the project was carried out by a local company, highlighting the technical capabilities and executional efficiency of Omani firms in this field.
The project encompasses a road network spanning more than 9 kilometers. Key components include a 1.35-kilometer dual carriageway tunnel. November 18 Street has also been expanded as part of the project into a four-lane road in each direction, covering 2.7 kilometers. In addition, four bypass roads totaling 1.3 kilometers, seven service roads, and several entry and exit points have been constructed to help ease traffic flow.
