Oman today_ With the arrival of Emilio Alvarez to the Persepolis coaching staff, the team is set to begin the new season with one of the most experienced goalkeeping coaches in Spanish football. The 53-year-old signed his contract after reaching an agreement with the club’s management.
Alvarez, who began his football journey at the Real Madrid academy, brings with him an impressive résumé, having worked with top clubs such as Manchester United, Atlético Madrid, Valencia, Benfica, and Real Madrid B. Internationally, he is best known for his significant role in the development of Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea.
Over the past two seasons, Alvarez has been part of Tractor’s technical staff in Iran and previously worked with clubs in the UAE, including Al-Wasl and Al-Ahli. During his time in Iran, he coached two prominent goalkeepers — Hossein Pourhamidi, who won the Golden Glove award, and Alireza Beiranvand, who set the record for the fewest goals conceded in a season.
His addition to Persepolis not only strengthens the technical team with his experience and tactical insight, but also marks a key strategic move by Vahid Hashemian as he builds his squad for the upcoming season. Interestingly, as Alvarez joins Persepolis, Tractor also unveiled their new goalkeeping coach, Mladen Zganjer from Croatia—making Alvarez’s switch even more notable, as he begins his third consecutive season in Iranian football, now with a rival club.
