In 1979, Benton directed “Kramer vs. Kramer,” a film that won the Academy Award for Best Picture and grossed over $100 million. His 1984 film “Places in the Heart” earned him another Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
Benton’s other notable works include “Nobody’s Fool,” “Twilight,” and “The Human Stain.” His final film, “Feast of Love,” was released in 2007. Benton remains one of the most influential figures in American cinema.
