Oman today_ Iran’s Esteghlal football team faced Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr in the second leg of the AFC Elite League Round of 16 on Monday at the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, suffering a 3-0 defeat.
In this match, Esteghlal’s goalkeeper, Seyed Hossein Hosseini, who had performed brilliantly in the first leg, made a mistake in the 9th minute, allowing Jhon Durán to score Al-Nassr’s opening goal. Later, defensive errors by Esteghlal and an inaccurate pass from Rafael Silva led to a penalty for Al-Nassr, which Cristiano Ronaldo converted into the second goal in the 27th minute.
The situation became even more challenging for Esteghlal after Mehran Ahmadi was sent off in the final moments of the first half. In the second half, Esteghlal failed to mount any significant threats against Al-Nassr and managed to resist until the 84th minute when Jhon Durán scored his second goal, sealing a 3-0 victory for Al-Nassr.
This bitter defeat could potentially impact Iran’s quota in the Asian competitions for the 2026-27 season.
