Oman today_ Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, during a meeting with senior officials of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), announced that his country is aiming to host the World Cup in future editions. The FIFA delegation, visiting Cairo as part of the promotional tour for the 2026 World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, received an official welcome from El-Sisi.

Expressing his delight that Cairo had been chosen as the second stop for the World Cup display, El-Sisi emphasized that this opportunity reflects Egypt’s prominent position in global sports and can help promote sports tourism as well as encourage a culture of sports among the youth.

The meeting was attended by Fabio Cannavaro, former captain of Italy’s national team and 2006 Ballon d’Or winner, alongside senior FIFA executives. During the session, El-Sisi highlighted the government’s vision to expand community sports and actively engage with major international sporting events.

A spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency stated that the FIFA delegation praised Egypt’s significant progress in sports infrastructure and commended Cairo’s successful experience in hosting international competitions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, El-Sisi wished the Egyptian national football team success in the 2026 World Cup and expressed hope that this edition, featuring more teams than ever, would mark a major step forward for global football development. He reiterated that Egypt will make every effort to host one of the upcoming World Cup tournaments.

Egypt is drawn in a group with Iran, Belgium, and New Zealand for the 2026 World Cup, while simultaneously competing for the opportunity to host one of the world’s biggest football events.
