Oman today_ The 35th Gotham Awards concluded with One Battle After Another by Paul Thomas Anderson shining as Best Feature Film, while Jafar Panahi took home three awards for It Was Just an Accident. On the same day, Panahi was sentenced to one year in prison and given a two-year travel ban from Iran. His film earned him accolades for Best International Feature, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Director.

Budget restrictions for eligible films were lifted two years ago; previously, only films with budgets under $35 million could compete. In past years, films such as Spotlight, Moonlight, and Everything Everywhere All at Once won Best Feature and later went on to claim the Oscar.

The winners of the three acting categories were not present at the ceremony. Souhe Deryso won Best Leading Actor for My Father’s Shadow, while Wonmi Mosaku for Sinners and Abou Sangaré for Souleymane’s Story received the other acting honors.

Guillermo del Toro, director of Netflix’s Frankenstein, once again declared “Down with AI” after receiving his honorary award. Paul Thomas Anderson, upon accepting Best Feature, thanked his wife Maya Randolph and emphasized, “To make a great film, you need great actors—and I had that on this project.”
