Oman today_ The awards ceremony of the Screen Actors Guild in the United States will be held under a new name starting next year. The organization has announced that the event will henceforth be known as The Actor Awards, a change that, according to officials, aligns the ceremony’s title with its main trophy, which has always been called “The Actor.”
The statement explains that this evolution had been under consideration for a long time, and with the ceremony’s expanding audience on Netflix, the timing is ideal for entering a new phase.
The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) represents roughly 160,000 professionals across various artistic and media fields, including film and television actors, journalists, voice actors, hosts, singers, stunt performers, puppeteers, DJs, and many other creative professionals.
The organization has a long history: it was founded in 1933, followed by the creation of the American Federation of Radio Artists four years later. In 1952, the radio and television divisions merged, and in 2012, the two main bodies united to form today’s SAG-AFTRA.
The upcoming edition of the awards, now under the new title, will take place on 1 March 2026, with the nominees set to be announced on 7 January.
