Oman today_ Mutrah Souq is one of the oldest and most famous traditional markets in Muscat, the capital of Oman. It is located in the Mutrah district, right along the Mutrah Corniche by the Arabian Sea. The main entrance of the souq opens from the corniche, leading into narrow, winding alleys that extend into the old neighborhoods of the city. The market is generally open in the mornings until noon and reopens in the afternoon until the evening. Visitors can find Omani handicrafts, spices, perfumes, silverware, and traditional clothing. Some sections of the souq have wooden or covered roofs, which limit direct sunlight, giving it the nickname “the dark market” in certain areas.
