Oman today_ Oman is preparing to launch air taxis, with the first official test flights scheduled to begin next year. This project is being carried out in collaboration with Odys Aviation, an international company that develops hybrid-electric vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft, and aims to ready the country for modern urban air mobility.

The program’s flagship aircraft, named Laila, is designed for vertical take-off and landing, capable of carrying heavy loads, and able to fly over long distances. It also features autonomous piloting, with trial operations set to commence in the first quarter of 2026.

The initiative includes testing the aircraft in real-world operational conditions, developing supporting infrastructure, and establishing new regulations, with the goal of positioning Oman as a global model for short-range and urban air mobility.

Oman’s air taxis are expected to serve a variety of purposes, including inspecting oil and gas pipelines, conducting rescue and emergency operations, transporting urgent medical supplies, and supporting urban infrastructure and logistics.

Officials state that this program not only helps prepare the nation’s technology and infrastructure but also strengthens Oman’s role in shaping international standards for air mobility, positioning the country among the global leaders in this emerging field.
