Oman today_ To ensure the safety of all passengers and crew, SalamAir has implemented new and strict restrictions on the carriage and use of spare batteries (power banks) on all flights, effective October 1, 2025.
This measure comes in response to growing concerns over incidents involving lithium batteries, such as fires caused by power banks prone to thermal runaway. Since the effective date, the use of any spare batteries or power banks on board aircraft has been strictly prohibited.
Passengers are allowed to carry spare batteries as long as strict safety rules are followed. Any permitted spare battery must remain turned off for the entire duration of the flight and cannot be used to charge any device or be charged itself. For storage, these items must be placed either in the seat pocket in front of the passenger or under the seat.
Regarding capacity, each passenger may carry one spare battery with a capacity of less than 100 watt-hours without prior approval, provided the safety rules are observed. Power banks with a capacity between 100 and 160 watt-hours are considered restricted and may only be carried with prior official approval from SalamAir, while still being subject to the same onboard restrictions. Finally, power banks with a capacity exceeding 160 watt-hours are strictly prohibited and are not allowed on any SalamAir flight.
