Oman today_ Oman is currently hosting the regional preparatory meeting for West Asian countries, aimed at preparing for participation in the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in Muscat.
The global assembly is scheduled to take place from 8 to 12 December 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya, under the theme “Strengthening Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet.” The Oman meeting is organized in cooperation with the Environment Authority of Oman and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for West Asia and will continue for two days.
During the meeting, representatives from the region discussed key topics, including the draft ministerial declaration, proposed resolutions, implementation mechanisms, and shared regional priorities in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The outcomes of previous meetings, such as those of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs and the meetings of ministers and heads of environmental bodies in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, were also reviewed.
The meeting is expected to conclude with a set of unified recommendations focusing on areas such as the circular economy, environmental governance, knowledge and technology transfer, and strengthening regional cooperation. These recommendations aim to support the implementation of the environmental dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals and advance relevant global and regional initiatives.
