Oman today_ This fatayer is made with a soft, well-kneaded dough and filled with a delicious combination of seasoned meat and stretchy cheese, resulting in a wholesome and tasty snack.
To prepare the dough, you will need: 350 ml warm water, 1/4 cup olive or vegetable oil, 1 and 1/3 tablespoons instant yeast, 1/2 tablespoon sugar, 2 tablespoons powdered milk, about 3 cups of flour (add more if needed), and 1 teaspoon salt.
The filling consists of 200 g ground beef sautéed with onion and spices, 1 cup chopped colorful bell peppers, 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, and 1 tablespoon dried basil.
First, combine the warm water, oil, yeast, and sugar. Then gradually add the flour, powdered milk, and salt until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels too sticky, lightly flour your hands and knead well until smooth and elastic. Let the dough rest for about 1 hour until it doubles in size.
After resting, punch down the dough and divide it into small portions. Roll each piece out with a rolling pin to about half a centimeter thick. Place the meat, peppers, cheese, and basil mixture in the center, then seal the edges firmly.
Finally, arrange the fatayer on a tray, brush lightly with oil, and bake or cook in a sandwich maker for about 5 minutes until golden and ready to serve.
