Oman today_ Oman’s national football team traveled to Istanbul yesterday, August 19, to participate in a training camp from August 20 to 28. This camp is part of Oman’s preparations for the second edition of the Central Asia Unity Tournament, which will take place from August 29 to September 8 in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. There is a possibility that a friendly encounter between Carlos Queiroz and the Iranian national team could occur during this tournament, similar to the previous match between Iran and Qatar, which ended in a heavy defeat for the former Iranian coach.
Carlos Queiroz, Oman’s head coach, plans to organize friendly matches during the camp to help players regain their match fitness alongside technical training. The final squad will be announced after the conclusion of the first week of the Oman Professional League. Prior to this, Oman held a three-day domestic camp with 26 players. This camp did not include players from Al-Seeb Club, as the team was participating in the AFC Champions League 2 and, after losing to Goa FC, moved to the group stage of the AFC Challenge Cup.
In the group stage, Oman will first face Uzbekistan on August 30, then Kyrgyzstan on September 2, and Turkmenistan on September 5. The results of these matches will play a crucial role in preparing the team for the 2026 World Cup qualifying play-offs, where Oman is scheduled to face Qatar on October 8 and the United Arab Emirates on October 11.
The training camp in Turkey is considered a key phase for Queiroz’s squad to improve tactical coordination, physical readiness, and mental focus ahead of the crucial autumn matches.
