Oman today_ Shah Rukh Khan has won India’s National Film Award for Best Actor for the first time in his career. He received the honor for his performance in the action film Jawan, in which he portrays two roles: Vikram Rathore, an army commando, and Azad, his son who leads a group of prisoners. The film is directed by Atlee Kumar and also features Deepika Padukone.
Khan shares the award with Vikrant Massey, who was recognized for his role as Manoj Kumar in the film 12th Fail.
The jury, chaired by Ashutosh Gowariker, described Khan’s performance as a powerful display of emotional depth and intensity, highlighting his creation of two unforgettable characters that reflect both raw rage and inner strength.
Shah Rukh Khan began his acting career in 1988 with the television series Fauji, and entered Bollywood in 1992 with the film Deewana. Over the years, he has won 14 Filmfare Awards, received the Padma Shri from the Government of India, and been honored with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Legion of Honour from France.
Fans on social media have said that he should have received the National Award years ago, particularly for his performances in Swades, Chak De! India, and My Name Is Khan.
Earlier this May, Khan also made headlines as the first Indian male actor to attend the Met Gala in New York.
