Oman today_ Lamine Yamal, the rising star of FC Barcelona, was named the best football player of the season yesterday, according to Marca’s annual ranking. The 18-year-old, who only recently came of age, topped Marca’s list of the world’s 100 best players, surpassing strong contenders such as Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha.
The ranking was determined by a 133-member jury consisting of Spanish journalists, international reporters, former professional footballers, and coaches. Yamal secured first place with a total of 3,310 points. Dembélé followed with 3,100 points, while Vitinha ranked third with 2,732 points.
Last season, Yamal had placed fourth on the same list. That year, Vinícius Júnior was named the best player in the world, followed by Jude Bellingham in second place and Rodri—who also won the Ballon d’Or—taking third.
With this latest recognition, Yamal now joins the ranks of notable past winners such as Karim Benzema, Erling Haaland, and Vinícius Júnior.
