Oman today_ The 2025 Club World Cup marked a historic moment as the tournament was held for the first time with 32 teams participating. Chelsea emerged as champions, bringing the competition to a close. Now, with the excitement of that edition fading, all eyes are turning to the next tournament, scheduled to take place in 2029.
Interestingly, Chelsea—despite winning the 2025 title—does not qualify automatically for the 2029 edition. The English club will need to earn its spot through future competitions. So far, only four teams have secured their places in the next Club World Cup.
Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia was the first to qualify, earning a spot by winning the AFC Champions League. Paris Saint-Germain, despite losing to Chelsea in the final, also booked its ticket thanks to its UEFA Champions League victory. Egypt’s Al Ahlyram, winners of the CAF Champions League, and Cruz Azul of Mexico, the CONCACAF champions, have also confirmed their participation.
Despite the qualification of these four teams, the host country for the 2029 Club World Cup has yet to be announced. It remains uncertain whether the tournament will return to the United States, as it did in 2025, or if Qatar will succeed in securing the hosting rights. However, reports suggest that FIFA is considering Spain, Portugal, and Morocco as joint hosts. These three countries are also set to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, making the 2029 Club World Cup an ideal opportunity to assess their preparedness ahead of the global event.
