Oman today_ In the 72nd edition of the Miss World competition held this year in India, Opal Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand emerged as the winner. This international event featured 108 participants from various countries. The runner-up title was awarded to Huste Dereje Admasu from Ethiopia.
The coronation ceremony was conducted by Kristýna Píšková, last year’s winner from the Czech Republic. After receiving the crown, Chuangsri described this victory as a moment of pride and expressed her interest in pursuing a career in Bollywood if given the opportunity.
However, this year’s competition was not without controversy. Mila Magee, the representative of England, unexpectedly withdrew midway through the event and sharply criticized the organizers. She claimed that the event, contrary to its official motto “Beauty with a Purpose,” had become a platform for commercial advertising and attracting investors, overshadowing its supposed social goals.
Magee, who entered the competition to raise awareness about the importance of teaching Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in schools, stated, “I believed this competition was an opportunity to promote social causes, but what I witnessed was completely different. We were more like decorative symbols rather than genuine advocates for social change.”
In response to these remarks, the Miss World organization issued a statement dismissing Magee’s criticisms as unfounded. Julia Morley, the CEO of the competition, commented, “Magee withdrew simply because she felt she had no chance of winning.” Magee countered this claim, asserting that her decision was based entirely on her core values and had nothing to do with her chances of success.
