Oman today_ Muscat Municipality is gearing up to unveil Oman’s tallest flagpole, set to be showcased on May 22 at Al Khuwair Square. Towering at the height of a 40-story building, this monumental structure will proudly display the national flag, serving as a powerful symbol of national pride and unity.
The flag measures 18 meters in width and 31.5 meters in length, while the pole, constructed using 135 tonnes of steel, is equipped with a red warning light for aircraft safety. Once installed, the flagpole will officially become the tallest man-made structure in Oman.
Funded by Jindal Steel Sohar, the project is regarded as a testament to Oman’s infrastructural and industrial advancements. Harssha Shetty, CEO of Jindal Steel Sohar, stated, “This flagpole is more than a steel structure; it’s a symbol of Oman’s bright future and the unity of its people.”
Coinciding with the unveiling, the new Al Khuwair Square will also open to the public. Spanning 18,000 square meters, the square features cycling and walking paths, lush green spaces, a skate park, zones for art exhibitions, and multi-purpose sports areas. Public facilities, including restrooms and parking spaces, have also been incorporated.
This significant event is set to mark a historic moment for Oman’s capital, creating a new landmark while celebrating national achievements and fostering a sense of community.
