Oman today_ Haitham bin Tariq, the Sultan of Oman, issued two new royal decrees that introduced a fresh law for electronic transactions and granted a first-class license to a specialized company for the development of a space communications system. According to one of the decrees, the new electronic transactions law replaces the previous legislation. This law is designed to align with technological advancements and strengthen the infrastructure of the digital economy. It addresses key aspects such as granting legal validity to electronic documents and signatures, protecting user data and privacy, establishing legal frameworks for electronic certification service providers, and ensuring enforcement mechanisms for digital violations. The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology has been tasked with implementing this law and is responsible for drafting and issuing the related regulations and decisions.
Additionally, another decree granted a first-class license to a specialized company in the field of space communication technologies to establish and operate a satellite system dedicated to providing fixed public communication services within Oman. This initiative is part of the national strategy aimed at enhancing digital and communication infrastructure, reducing dependency on foreign technologies, and advancing toward technological independence and global integration.
