Oman today_ The Muttrah Cable Car project is progressing well and is expected to be operational before the end of the first quarter of this year.
The CEO of Sabeen Group stated that the project is moving according to plan and its main components will be ready by the end of the first quarter. He also mentioned that construction on one of the towers is nearing completion.
The project has successfully overcome the challenges posed by the uneven terrain in the area and is now in its final stages. The main goal is to offer a unique and engaging experience for tourists, allowing them to enjoy the cable car while also viewing the city’s historical and scenic sites from above.
The cable car will feature three stations:
The first station, located at the port next to the fish market
The second station, situated on the mountaintop behind Al Riyam Park, offering a 360-degree view of the coast and sea
The third station, located at the Flower Park (Al Ward Street)
Each station will have a variety of facilities for families. The mountaintop station will include an orchid center and a children’s roller coaster, while the Flower Park station will feature restaurants and stalls showcasing products from small businesses.
The cabins are designed to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience even during the long and hot summer months.
The cable car is built by the Swiss company Bartholet, which has over 60 years of experience and more than 300 successful projects worldwide. Standard cabins will seat eight passengers, while VIP cabins will accommodate four. In total, 18 cabins will operate on the route, including two VIP cabins for special purposes.
Passengers will depart from the port station, passing by Muttrah Fort and the Royal Yachts, before reaching the mountaintop station. This station will serve as an interchange between the two routes: the first route runs from the port to the mountaintop, and the second continues from the mountaintop to the Flower Park.
In the second phase of the project, the Flower Park will be further developed to include a dancing fountain and family-friendly recreational spaces. The mountaintop station will also feature a pedestrian street highlighting Swiss cuisine, emphasizing the cultural connection between Oman and Switzerland.
