Oman today_ Filming for Wonka 2 is scheduled to begin on January 5, 2026 in Los Angeles, according to information released by the Production List.
At the end of the first film, Timothée Chalamet in the role of Willy Wonka finally opened his chocolate shop, sharing his talent with the world. The second installment, presented as a musical, will explore Wonka’s early life in mid-19th century England and depict his youth during the Industrial Revolution.
The sequel is an adaptation of the classic novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl, showing how Wonka began his journey before achieving success.
Warner Bros. plans to release this sequel, currently referred to as the “untitled family sequel”, on December 17, 2027, and it is widely believed to be Wonka 2.
Last year, Paul King, the director of the first film, confirmed in an interview that the sequel is in development and that about half of the screenplay draft has been completed. He added that they are satisfied with the story and have a clear vision for the character’s new path.
The first film, Wonka, premiered on December 15, 2023, receiving 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.9/10 rating on IMDb. Made with a $125 million budget, it grossed over $634 million worldwide. Other cast members included Hugh Grant, Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, and Paterson Joseph, with Paul King serving as both writer and director.
