Oman today_ Netflix, Disney, and Amazon have entered the race to acquire the broadcasting rights for the UEFA Champions League from the 2027 to 2033 seasons. It is expected that this deal will generate revenue of over €5 billion per season for UEFA and European clubs.
Global broadcasting of these matches on these streaming platforms could lead to higher subscription fees and a more fragmented viewing experience. In the UK, full broadcasting rights are held by TNT Sports and Amazon, while BBC Sport is only allowed to show match highlights online and on BBC One. In the United States, CBS holds the broadcasting rights until 2030.
Revenue from the sale of broadcasting rights is distributed among the clubs; 75% goes to clubs participating in the Champions League, 17% to Europa League clubs, and 8% to Conference League clubs. Previously, revenue from television broadcasting for clubs and UEFA amounted to approximately €3.5 million.
The UEFA Champions League has been held under a new format since last year. In the previous season, Paris Saint-Germain became the champion after defeating Inter Milan 5-0.
