Oman today_ The Central Bank of Oman has announced that the deadline for redeeming expired banknotes at all operating banks across the Sultanate of Oman has been extended until September 21, 2026.
After this date, no requests for the redemption of expired banknotes will be accepted. Previously, the Central Bank had stated that certain banknotes issued before 2020 are no longer considered legal tender.
The banknotes included in this redemption program are as follows:
1 Rial, 1/2 Rial, 200 Baisa, and 100 Baisa issued in November 1995.
50 Rial, 20 Rial, 10 Rial, and 5 Rial issued in November 2000.
1 Rial commemorative note issued in 2005.
20 Rial commemorative note issued in 2010.
50 Rial, 10 Rial, and 5 Rial issued in 2011 and 2012.
1 Rial commemorative note issued in 2015.
50 Rial issued in 2019.
The Central Bank has urged all citizens and residents to exchange their old banknotes promptly to avoid potential difficulties and limitations in their use. Redemption services are available through all authorized banks throughout Oman.
This initiative is part of the Central Bank’s ongoing efforts to facilitate financial transactions, maintain public confidence in the country’s monetary system, and ensure the healthy circulation of banknotes in the market.
