Oman today_ From France to Canada, Iranian filmmakers are making a strong mark in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars. For the first time, and in a rare occurrence, four Iranian directors from four different countries are representing their films in this section.
Jafar Panahi with A Simple Accident representing France, Ali Zerangari with Cause of Death Unknown representing Iran, Alireza Khatami with What Has Been Seeking You representing Canada, and Shahram Mokri with Black Rabbit, White Rabbit representing Tajikistan are all in the race.
Panahi’s film, which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, faced tough competition in France against works such as Richard Linklater’s New Wave, but was ultimately chosen as the country’s official submission to the Oscars. The film is considered to have strong chances of making it into the final five nominees.
