Oman today_ In the latest 2025 edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII), published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Sultanate of Oman advanced five positions, ranking 69th among 139 economies worldwide.
The WIPO report highlights the growing trend of innovation in the Middle East, stating: “Bahrain (62), Jordan (65), and Oman (69) are among the fastest-growing countries in innovation this year. This progress is primarily driven by improvements in infrastructure, the expansion of research and development activities, and strengthened collaboration between universities and industry.”
The Global Innovation Index is recognized as one of the most reputable international benchmarks, ranking countries based on their innovation capabilities and performance. It evaluates around 80 sub-indicators, categorized into two main areas: “innovation inputs,” which include infrastructure, human capital, and research, and “innovation outputs,” which cover knowledge creation, technology, and creative products, providing a comprehensive overview of each country’s innovation ecosystem.
Overall, the Global Innovation Index offers an accurate measure of countries’ innovation capacity and performance. Published annually, it presents a detailed assessment of innovation across global economies, based on key factors such as education, research, technology, creative outputs, and infrastructure.
